Homethinking Allows Users to Learn a New City by Comparing Neighborhoods

Homethinking.com, a site that helps home owners make better real estate decisions, today unveiled neighborhoods.homethinking.com. If a person is moving, neighborhoods.homethinking.com allows the user to browse the neighborhoods of a new city, and order them by what's most similar to where they did live.

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 14, 2008 -- Homethinking.com, a site that helps home owners make better real estate decisions, today unveiled neighborhoods.homethinking.com. If a person is moving, neighborhoods.homethinking.com allows the user to browse the neighborhoods of a new city, and order them by what's most similar to where they did live.

"There's no quicker way to get to know a new city than by looking at
it through the lens of a city you know very well," said Alex Mather, Product Manager at Homethinking.com.

Users can type in where they currently live or where they are moving to, and the site will show which neighborhoods are most similar to each other.

For example, a person currently lives in Gramercy Park in Manhattan, New York, and they are moving to San Francisco but don't know much else about the city. Neighborhoods.homethinking.com will help them identify that Gramercy Park is most similar to Nob Hill and North Beach in San Francisco based on the people, activities, arts/culture and vibe of the areas.

The overall similarity between each pair of neighborhoods is ranked as a score out of 100, with 100 being the most similar and 0 being the least similar. The overall rating is made of 4 different categories: people, activities, arts/culture and vibe. This helps users to make the best decision about where to move based on the elements that are most important to them.

The neighborhood scores are initially calculated using demographic data collected from the US census and other public sources. Wide numbers of demographic factors such as age, marital status, whether a household has children, and the frequency of art and cultural activities, are compared. The reviews of consumers and real estate agents then refine the scores further over time.

Neighborhoods.homethinking.com is also a useful tool for real estate agents. Real estate agents can contribute reviews to the site based on their own unique knowledge of local areas. "By contributing reviews of neighborhoods, real estate agents can demonstrate their knowledge of local areas and establish credibility to new prospective residents," said Niki Scevak, Founder of Homethinking.com. "Additionally, the best reviewers are featured for free in the relevant city."

Homethinking - Comparing Neighborhoods from TRANSPARENT REAL ESTATE on Oct 15, 2008   Preview Open
Homethinking just launched its new city neighborhood comparison application (press release) in which users rate and review the similarities of neighborhoods between different cities. It's a product similar in business mission to Trulia Voices where real estate agents share their knowledge of neighborhoods as a means to gaining online visibility to potential clients. In addition, it's a great parlor game for urban geography/sociology buffs. I noted that an earlier comparison between NYC's Morningside Heights and SF's Inner Richmond were off: ...
