Don't Miss Out on a Flight Tax Refund with Airport Parking and Hotels

Airport Parking and Hotels (APH), the long stay airport parking and hotels specialist, has added a detailed table to its Know Before You Go section on the website (www.aph.com/news/tax_return.htm), comparing the cost of claiming back tax on missed flights.

London, UK (PRWEB) October 15, 2008 -- Airport Parking and Hotels (APH), the long stay airport parking and hotels specialist, has added a detailed table to its Know Before You Go section on the website (www.aph.com/news/tax_return.htm), comparing the cost of claiming back tax on missed flights.

Passengers who are unable to fly on a pre-booked flight are able to claim back tax and duties due to the government despite booking a non-refundable ticket. Airlines are obliged to return the tax and airport charges if customers request it on flights not taken but most will include an administration charge, some of which can be extremely high.

The table compares the administration fees between Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2, BMI, British Airways and Flybe with low-cost airline Easyjet coming out on top offering a full tax refund at no extra cost. However the research also shows Jet2 customers are landed with a high administration fee of £40, meaning it may not be worthwhile trying to reclaim the tax back. Ryanair on the other hand charges a fee of £15 by fax or post whereas Flybe and BMI both impose more expensive charges of £25. British Airways are not far behind Jet2, with a £30 administration fee.

However on some long haul flights, the tax can be extremely high. For example, a passenger flying on a return flight from London to New York would be paying a total of £170 in taxes, well above the £30 administration fee imposed by they airline for the traveller to claim the tax back.

Nick Caunter, managing director at APH said: "Many passengers are unaware that they can reclaim hundreds of pounds back in taxes and duties if they haven't travelled on the flight. We felt that it was important to advise travellers of this, but also to point out these charges so they can be savvier in their travel choices."
